I love weddings. I love the reminder they are to Shay and I of our wedding and the vows we took before the Lord, our family and friends. We're coming up on 3 years now and it's been awesome! We pray we'll continue to grow in God's grace and in love for each other. We are so excited for Josh and Kate to begin their lives together and look forward to what God will do through them. Congratulations Josh and Kate Zegan! We love you! Here are a few photos from the wedding. Enjoy!

We're getting ready to fly the friendly skies this week as we are heading to Washington D.C. for the 4th of July! So we decided it might be time to get Bethany a camera of her own. She doesn't really think it 's fun to lug around my larger, clunky SLR, so a simple point and shoot is great for her. We spent some time getting some last minute items for our trip today. You might think that would include getting new toothpaste and travel items, but honestly, it was more like buying music, movies, magazines, and taking a bag of clothes to Goodwill... and of course grabbing a bite to eat at Stone Fire Grill.

On our way back to our apartment this evening we were able to capture this fun shot on the elevator. They recently remodeled our elevators and they are looking classy. The new mirrors are making it more fun to get crazy photos.

Lighthouses and Limousines

We started are Saturday by making a mix of songs for our day "date". I (Shay) started thumbing through my iTunes playlist and dragging songs to a mix I titled "Lighthouses and Limousines". The "lighthouse" part made since since we were going to visit the San Vicente Lighthouse (pictured above, obviously), but the "limousines" part I simply made up. Bethany even asked me about the "limousine" part, but I told her I just wanted another longer "L" word. And that's just the beginning.

We exited our apartment building and no sooner did we see a black limousine pulling out of the gas station! We started laughing and thought it was funny that we had titled our mix that, and our day began. Getting away this Saturday was our goal, but we really didn't care where; we just wanted to get out. That's why we chose to go to "Palos Verdes Estates." Basically, a fancy name for a bunch of rich people's houses on the California coast. But the Lighthouse we visited was neat because they had a "visitor center" type place there where people were whale watching, hanging out, and then there were some people taking pictures of their friends with blankets on their heads... we don't get it either. Apparently there is kind of a community, if you will, of whale watcher types. These people were intense. They even came complete with a chalkboard to which they kept count of the number of whales they saw. When we were there it was already up to 20 gray whales! Anyways, I think we need to get back to the limousines.

To our surprise, we saw more limousines than I believe we have ever seen. Our total count was 13! Quite honestly, we weren't on the hunt for limousines, but we just kept seeing them! It was really strange. You might think that we had some kind of foreknowledge, or whatever else, but we didn't. We just wanted a mix of songs for our "day away" and it ended up making the day that much more fun. So... I guess we're like prophets now? Well, I guess not. Now if we could just figure out how to get in a limo and go to a lighthouse, then we'd really be set. Yet, I think we're content with our, sweet, deluxe, classy, 1998 Volkswagen Jetta. Ahh.. whatever, I bet we still had more fun than the people in those limo's... I mean, look at us! We're so fun!

Bethany got ambitious and "updated" our wall. We like to think of it as our "wall of the world". A friend got us that painting in Africa, and another friend got us one of those little animal statues from the Philippines.

Sign Twirlers

I got a phone call from Bethany on Friday about something amazing, something extravagant. She was so excited about this that she had to call me and let me know. To my surprise, she wanted to talk about the "sign twirlers" that were working our local streets. Apparently, these guys are starting legitimate careers as sign twirlers. If you have no idea what these guys do, then be sure and google around for stuff about "sign twirling." Basically, they are human advertisers that hold sings on street corners telling us about local businesses. The guys Bethany was talking about were holding signs for a local Honda dealership. But these were not ordinary sign guys. The normal ones just hold the signs, sometimes dance with them, and pretty much act like they are on an iPod commercial. Not these guys. These were pro's. They can spin the sign like a pizza, go behind the back, and we even saw a guy kick spin the sign from the ground to his hand. My personal favorite move was the guy who was leaning back with one hand on the ground and the other straight up with the sign spinning on his palm. I don't think words can describe this signature move. Needless to say, they are amazing. For the first time we found ourselves wanting to go buy a Honda because we felt they were spending their marketing money wisely with these sign guys. So if you've got good hand-eye coordination and you're looking to make a few extra bucks on the side, maybe a career in sign twirling is just for you!

Christmas time is here at our apartment. This Christmas it's complete with a real tree (that smells good!), stockings, and lights on our balcony. There's only so much you can do in a one bedroom apartment on the third floor of a building, but we have made the best of it. Our tree is nice and full (thanks to Target) and our hearts are warm and happy (thanks to Jesus). Bethany is especially excited about decorating as we start the collection of Christmas decorations for our lives. It's always great to see how different everyone's decorations are. They are simply a collection of things that makes families who they are. My family had strings of little candy looking objects and wooden ornaments that made up gingerbread houses and the north pole. As a true southern Californian, we had a fake tree. Bethany grew up with a REAL tree (as a real Washingtonian), bubble lights, and ornaments from many people in her family. Now we get to start our tree. We get to start our own collection of family decorations. I even found myself saying, "well, this tree skirt has to last at least 20 years." That's fun. It's fun to begin this life of ours as a couple and to enjoy the holidays together.

On another note, apparently the super mom's are already hitting the stores though. Last night we spent some time at a craft store and it was intense to say the least. I (Shay) was 1 of 3 men in the store and the other 50 were women. And for some dumb reason they didn't carry the little hooks that hold the ornaments up. How are you supposed to hang the things if you don't have hooks?!! At any rate, we had to go to another store to find the 89 cent package of 150 hooks. yikes! Nevermind my frustration with stores, we really had a good time getting our decorations.

Thanksgiving Is For Memories

Things to do during Thanksgiving vacation:
1. Fly someplace fun.. (that has snow too!)
2. Eat lots and lots of food with lots and lots of people.
3. Go buy a Christmas tree while there are still some good ones left.
4. Decorate for Christmas (including the tree from number 3!)
5. Take daily naps.
6. Wait for snow, and when it comes, go play in it!

7. During all of this, enjoy being with the people you love.

It's all better in 3D

Everyone knows that everything is better in 3D!
Well, I don't know about better, but lots of fun. That's why Bethany and I used some free movie passes we had to go see "Nightmare Before Christmas" in 3D today.

We saw Tim Burton on Letterman the other day and he was saying that the glasses were a lot more stylish, and we have to agree. They were quite fashionable! But seriously, the movie was fun and exciting. They have done a lot with this 3D technology.. wow. So if you get some time, and you want to look very, and we mean, VERY stylish, get out and see the 3D greatness of Tim Burton's wonderful mind.

Though not being pictured, Bethany got her hair cut today too. We like it, also very fashionable. I guess the weekend is just going to be fashionable. hhm.. which reminds me.. Church is tomorrow, what should we wear?! We should probably get ironing..... bye!

The Pumpkin Patch

This weekend was the first time in our married life (which is up to 10 months!) that we have gone to the Pumpkin Patch! It was enjoyable for sure. We picked a great pumpkin to start. This one to your left is just perfect. Round, plump, and very orangy. Pretty much picture perfect.

We went with one of our favorite families from church. They allowed us to join in on their family tradition which took us to the great Limbardi Ranch. Apparently people come from miles around to see this place. The ranch had all kind of things for the kids: train rides, pony rides, mini pumpkins, sunflower fields (complete with competition scarecrows), white pumpkins, squash, corn, spinny wheel games, and a petting zoo to boot! We personally like the "Scarebucks" which was a complete scarecrow setting with a Starbucks like coffehouse and a very enticing menu. It took 2nd place in the 18 and over competition. Great times.

Take I-5 AKA "the 5" South

That's what we had to tell some friends of ours this week. You see, tomorrow morning we are actually getting ALL of our wedding gifts. We know it sounds weird, but it's the truth. Since our wedding was in the great state of Washington, we had to leave some stuff behind for a while. But thanks to some kind friends, tomorrow will be like opening our presents for the second time!

Bethany is tired right now. She is looking at me type and she is wondering if she should say something. She just laughed.

Anyways, we're out visiting our parents, Bethany's in-laws. So, we should go. BYE!

I'm so excited! This is my first attempt at blogging and I hope all goes well. We have some exciting news!!! No, the stork isn't stopping by...our wedding pictures are back! The Married Life

It's great. We're married. We haven't posted in over a month and we're sad, but now we're married. And I'm pretty sure getting married means you start watching Oprah, because we have been watching the SuperNanny on Oprah; so intense.

Anyways, our philosophy is give the people what they want. So, you want photos, so here's some photos.

The Countdown

Bethany and I have been counting down the days until we're married. We're so excited! She's moving in to our apartment in less than 2 weeks. Of course I won't move in until we're married, but you already knew that.

Anyways, we're trying hard to figure out our wedding plans with all the people, honeymoon, invitations, locations, etc... it's almost overwhelming. But I guess this is just how weddings can be. Alright, I'm off to class. Hope all is well.
